Police Officer Non-Certified

Job Goal

Perform general police work enforcing laws, ordinances, and department regulations, preventing crime, and protecting life and property. Perform criminal investigations. Provide the highest degree of professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 20 years old, but must be 21 by the time they graduate from the basic academy

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Must meet requirements as outlined in Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS), including physical standards listed below, and become certified within one year after appointment in accordance with KRS Chapter 15; once certified, must maintain certification as a condition of continued employment.

POPS Physical Testing Standards

  • Bench Press (73% of body weight – conversion)

  • Sit up Test (18 in 1 minute time limit)

  • 300 Meter Run (within 65 seconds)

  • Push up Test (25 in 2-minute time limit)

  • 1.5 Mile Run (within 16:15 time limit)

A scoring matrix is used to determine the points earned for each event. To meet the state standard, an overall minimum of 50 points must be achieved.
