About Berea
Known as the Kentucky Folk Arts and Crafts Capital, Berea offers a unique blend of cultural identity, workforce access, and strategic location. Situated along Interstate 75 in the heart of the Bluegrass Region, Berea provides access to a labor market of more than 745,000 adults, features two rail-accessible industrial parks, and is within a one-day drive of 54 percent of the U.S. population.
With a population of 17,797, Berea is also home to the world-renowned Berea College. In addition, colleges and universities within a one-hour drive produce more than 12,000 graduates annually. Workforce training is supported through multiple career centers, the future home of an incoming tech school, and ongoing small business workshops and educational seminars that reflect the community’s strong commitment to economic development.
Berea and the surrounding region have also placed a strong emphasis on workforce readiness. Local school systems have embraced Work Ready Certification to help ensure that students are prepared to take advantage of future job opportunities. This program evaluates key areas that contribute to a productive workforce, including graduation rates, career readiness credentials, community commitment, educational attainment, soft skills, and internet availability.
Today, local schools are helping prepare the next generation through coursework and training in areas such as business management, computer-aided drafting, machine tool technology, and health sciences.
