PARTICIPATE IN BEREA’S FUTURE AT THE UPCOMING PUBLIC WORKSHOP
The City of Berea invites you to attend a Public Workshop for the Berea Comprehensive Plan Update.
Berea, KY – The City of Berea is in the process of updating their Comprehensive Plan, which is required every five years by KRS 100. The Comprehensive plan was initially adopted in 2015 and the City hired Taylor Siefker Williams Design Group and Bell Engineering in March 2020 to update the plan. The purpose of a comprehensive plan is to serve as a guide or roadmap for city staff, city officials and community groups when making decisions about future growth and development. The comprehensive plan covers topics such as land use, transportation, community facilities & utilities, housing, economic development, and environment. The comprehensive plan update will adjust plan elements such as the vision statement, goals, and objectives to better align with today’s demographic trends, population projections, community preferences and priorities.
An online survey was released in late March to gather initial input for the comprehensive plan update during the statewide Healthy at Home mandate. The survey can be found on the City of Berea website and Facebook page.
For further public input, there are two planned events that citizens are encouraged to attend. The first will be an online PowerPoint presentation and Q&A session via Facebook Live. The meeting will be held on Monday, July 13th, 2020 from 6:00-7:00 pm and can be accessed https://www.facebook.com/bereakygov/. Citizens can comment on Facebook during the meeting or send comments via email to codescomments@bereaky.gov.
An in-person public workshop will be held on July 15th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Russel Acton Folk Center (212 W Jefferson Street). To minimize large crowds and adhere to social distancing measures, the workshop will be an open house format where anyone can stop by to learn more and share their input during the allotted timeframe.
It is important that we hear from as many people as possible during this process to ensure the comprehensive plan aligns with the values and desires of our community. We encourage everyone – citizens, business owners, college students, and property owners – to attend this meeting or participate in the online survey.
At the conclusion of the public workshop the comprehensive plan will be updated and provided to staff, officials and the public for additional comment and adoption.
