Burning permits are issued at Berea Fire Station # 1, located at 212 Chestnut St. The shift officer on duty will issue permits if conditions are safe for open burning and it will not create excessive or unusual smoke. The permit is for the day that it is issued and must comply with State open burning laws. The fire must be attended until it has burned out.

53.006 Open Burning Prohibited; Permit Fee
- No person shall cause, suffer or allow any open burning of any material within the corporate limits of the city unless such person obtains a burning permit issued by the city fire department. No burning shall be issued unless it is in compliance with 401 KAR 63:005 and all persons issued burning permits shall comply with 401 KAR 63:005
- An applicant for a burning permit may receive two (2) free burning permits each calendar year, per address; thereafter, each applicant shall be charged the sum of ten ($10.00) dollars per permit.
- Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a violation and shall be subject to a fine of not less than twenty-five ($25.00) dollars nor more than one hundred fifty ($150.00) dollars for each offense.
